A REPUBLICAN’S TRIBUTE TO HOWARD DEAN

HOWARD DEAN, HOW DID WE LOVE THEE? LET ME COUNT THE WAYS

A year ago you were a blip on the radar screen, an asterisk in the polls
When of all sudden, December came and you were on a roll

Liberals on college campuses and the World Wide Web were flocking to your cause
On the campaign trail your hooting, hollering and shouting were met with wild applause

As far as the eye could see, Deaniacs were running around New Hampshire and Iowa
People in the Democratic Party were getting nervous, even Hillary and Bubba

The media started chattering, Lieberman lost Joementum and Clark started to groan
But then Gephardt and McAuliffe took pot shots at you and Kerry got a $6 million loan

You were on the covers of Time and Newsweek, many people said you couldn’t be beat
But then Dubya caught Saddam, and man, that was sweet

So, you were mad and upset and you began to complain and get testy
January got tougher when you yelled at an Iowa voter, it was getting really messy

Iowa was a disaster, we all know what happened there, Dr. Dean
What we didn’t see coming was when your speech turned into a scream

New Hampshire! South Carolina! Arizona! New Mexico! Michigan and Oklahoma!
We couldn’t believe what we were seeing, my friend said “He’s pulling a Homer!”

Like a shooting star, your high-flying poll numbers soon began to disappear
Us Bush fans went from rubbing hands in glee to asking, “where do we go from here?”

We miss you, Howard Dean, it would have been fun (and easy) to run against you
Alas, we always knew deep down inside, your campaign was too good to be true

Now you left us with Kerry and Edwards, they are so boring it won’t be as much fun
But your fellow Democrats never cease to amaze us, there’s still a chance for Sharpton!
