ALEXANDER THE GREAT: ACCORDING TO MOVIE REVIEWS, IT'S REALLY ALEXANDER THE WORST

New York Post: Alexander The Geek
By Lou Lumenick

But Stone and Farrell end up going too far - their light-in-the-sandals Alexander is often such a simpering, indecisive wuss that it's hard to accept he conquered most of the known world before his mysterious death at the age of 33 in 323 B.C.

An otherwise fine actor who tries hard here, Farrell lacks sufficient gravitas as either a ferocious warrior or a Greek Hamlet, often being dwarfed by cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto's sweeping vistas and his scenery-chewing co-stars.

The chief offender is Angelina Jolie, over the top even by her extravagant standards, as Alexander's mother, Olympias, who welcomes him as a youngster (Connor Paolo) into her bed - along with a bevy of snakes.

CNN: 'Alexander The Great' is a Dud

By Paul Clinton

For the most part this film, while visually stunning, is really just one battle sequence after another. Many scenes, such as the march into Babylon, are breathtaking. The script, however, is totally pedestrian, the casting inept, and the results are disappointing.

I found myself desperately glancing at my watch more than once.
